By day, Yvette Landry is an educator—teaching American Sign Language and Song Writing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a private homeschool teacher, and teaches bass, guitar, accordion and vocals at music camps and festivals. She is also an author—her children’s book, The Ghost Tree” was nominated for “Louisiana’s Young Reader’s Choice Award.”
By night, however, she is a musician and singer, who in June was elected as “Governor” to the Memphis Chapter of the Grammy Foundation, and in July became one of the top three nominees for the L’association De Musique Cadienne Francaise De Louisiane, “Le Cajun – ‘Female Vocalist of the Year‘ – Award.”
Those who know the Cajun music side of this multi-talented woman as a member of the Grammy nominated band Bonsoir Catin, Lafayette Rhythm Devils, Balfa Toujours and her own Yvette Landry Band, will get to see another, more classic country side of her impressive musical eclecticism, teamed with virtuoso pedal steel guitarist, Richard Comeaux. The duo have a brand new cd, Me & T-Coe’s Country (Soko),focusing primarily on classic country music from the 1950s –‘70s. Reviewer Ben Sandmel writes of the recording: “Landry’s supple, sultry voice convincingly evokes the feel of the Patsy Cline/Loretta Lynn school without any trace of self-conscious revivalism.
